“I signed up to play in an IPM 2019 RPG One-Shot game. What now?”
We’re so glad that you’re participating as a player in an IPM 2019 game! Below are summaries of all of the available games, along with tentative days and times.
Please pick your TOP THREE games that you’d want to play in. This is NOT a first-come-first-serve model. We will be matching players as best we can to the games and GMs.
The edited games should only be a maximum of two hours in length, however, this does not necessarily mean the play session will be two hours. The play session may be longer (or shorter).
Please note that the game date/time is only a tentative date/time. You should only pick games you are confident you are able to attend the listed date, however, the group may decide later (once game groups are finalized) to change the game date to suit needs better.
Oppressive Language: Please avoid racial slurs, homophobic language, ableist language (such as crazy or stupid), and any other forms of oppressive or harmful language. If you have a disability that makes changing language difficult, let us know and we will work with you to find a way to make this process accessible.
Problematic Stereotypes (especially regarding race): Players and GMs should work together to ensure no one is playing a character that represents a harmful stereotype. As an example: If a players wants to play a drow, we expect the DM to work with them to ensure they aren't using the "dark-skinned fantasy race = evil" trope.
All game groups should hold a pre-game discussion. This discussion provides an opportunity for players to get rules clarifications and/or discuss safety rules and boundaries in advance of the game.
All games are expected to have built-in safety mechanisms. This is for the safety of all players AND the game master. Options for the safety mechanism include Lines & Veils, the X-Card, or the Script Change tool. Resources for these tools will be provided.
We want to be clear that transcripts are NOT REQUIRED for participation. Tabletop role-playing games are a lot of work to put together and many game masters do not have the time or energy to also do transcripts. That is okay. If there are folks who are up for working on transcripts, we have resources and support to do so.
Note: all times are in Central Daylight Time (CDT). Here’s a quick way guide:
Pacific Time (PDT): Two hours earlier than CDT
Mountain Time (MDT): An hour earlier than CDT
Eastern Time (EDT): An hour later than CDT
Atlantic Time (ADT): Two hours later than CDT

GM: Megan (@tabletop_megan on Twitter)
Game pitch: Okay. Here's the job. The Annual Gothic Gala is coming to the local convention center, ya see? But I hear that this year they've got something really special. Dark elf manuka honey. Some say the bees are kept in a cliffside resort eating nothing but Swiss chocolate and Queen of the Night cactus blossoms. Apparently, it's the only honey to soothe the darkened heart. But I think it's the only honey worth coming out of retirement for. One last con. Now, the convention center has security guards and, if I know the place well, there's probably some tech to get backstage. But we're bears. If anyone deserves that honey, it's us. So are you in? This is going to be an incredibly improv-heavy game of laughs. You've gotta think quick on your paws if you want that sweet nectar.

It is also a low-conflict game in which the dice rolls do not determine success or failure of player actions, but what happens in the game, which is designed to last about two hours per session. The characters take on the roles of a group of villagers leaving their home village to explore the world, with an initial destination point of the city of Icadora, which should be some three days travel. But one never knows what will happen during travel. Perhaps the party will be sidetracked by the promise of treasure. Maybe they find themselves helping a different village that they encounter on their travels! What the events of the actual adventure look like depends on the dice rolls of the players.
